Tam Quam Tabula Rasa ‎– Noxia Blandimenta

Summer has come, soon the air will be filled with mucus filing pollen, and I’m cooked up in an office with lots of free time. What better way to pass the time than to do some delightful Discogs archaeology!

I started off with looking at the discography of some good old fashioned industrial tape labels, since it’s been a while I enjoyed some harsh rhythmic melodies. I got caught up with the Insane Music label and their myriad of compilation tapes. Some really fantastic stuff there, and I noticed Kopfschmerztablette, a classic and favorite industrial bands of mine. But hey, what is this release, Objekt Zwei Oder Einfahrt Freihalten? Haven’t seen that one before, and the label, ZNS Tapes? A short-lived, German, tape label from the late 80’s – early 90’s, with a focus on abstract, experimental, industrial, music. And their entire back catalog is available online? Now were talking!

Jormungand ‎– Fragments Of A Hologram Rose

“The rule of fear becomes concrete in the moment you accept it and you are aware that what cares[sic] you more is what seems to you more common, more normal. The fear of the unknown is an irrational answer to the excess of imagination; but the daily fear, the fear of the stranger lying in wait, of the noise of steps on the stairs, the fear of a violent death is more disquieting, and real as the consciousness that it could also happen to you. There is nothing more real than reality.

WE PERFORM REALITY”

Everyday Loneliness – An Error in Judgement

An Error in Judgement

You know what, to be a bit frank and perhaps a bit too personal with you, I’ve been in a pretty terrible mood this past week. Perhaps it was a smaller anxiety attack from the realization that I still don’t know where I’m going in life, and that I have a pretty big problem with dealing with stuff and getting shit done. And because of this, I end up alone in my small apartement, procrastinating everything to the last second and feeling like crap the whole time; just sitting and clicking from page to page on Reddit, and escaping my thoughts by leaving Spotify running endlessly. Maybe I have some real issues I need to deal with or maybe I’ve just been listening to too much introspective, downer, sad drones, like the latest cassette I’ve bought, Everyday Loneliness – An Error in Judgement

In light of the lovely gay-pride celebration currently in my town, I think it’s in order to talk a little bit of a great neo-folk/experimental musician which I adore, namely, Jhonn BalanceA great artist and inspiration to all, that tragically passed away too soon…  Continue reading

Macronympha – Sex and Death review | And a short essay about Noise and the prevalent use of sexual themes in the genre.

“More like a mirror we reflect society, some things you might not ordinarily look at. A dark and perversely twisted photo-journalism. Freaks and other like-minded individuals aren’t the only people who can look past “-isms” and “-ologies” to find a relevant voice. NOISE is as old as millions of years of volcanic eruption and mountain erosion. The modern industry of metal and machines added more to this mix. All we do is use everything at our disposal to record the true power that had been filling the airwaves since the beginning of time.”

Spettro Family – Strigoi

Spettro Family - Strigoi

This is one of those hard to categorize styles of music… Ambient, yet too much “energy”, synth, yet too experimental and ambient, avant-garde, yet not challenging enough. Perhaps the fairest and best way to describe the Strigoi tape is… “a haunting surrealist soundtrack to a 70’s impressionistic Italian exploitation film.” Continue reading

Xiu – Possession

Who says I don’t like pop? I listen to pop… sometimes… only when it is dark, moody, and underground-avant-garde-retro-synthwave-pop released on cassette on a small Swedish label. Sarcasm aside, Xiu is a pleasant experience which I thought I wouldn’t have when I stumbled upon it on the label Beläten. As soon as I see the mention of “pop” in the description of an album, I reflexively back away and get very disinterested, afraid of getting a bad uninspired attempt of trying to stand out from the crowd by calling themselves “avant-garde” and “underground”. But when I saw that it has a music video I thought, why not, and started listening to it. The video intrigued me enough to listen to the entire cassette on Spotify, and I’m glad I did.
