The Ruins of Beverast – Foulest Semen of a Sheltered Elite

I feel like there have been too much soft, cute, beautiful indie music recently. So it’s time for some menacing, dark and gloomy black metal, and what better than The Ruins of Beverast?!

Hailing from Germany, Alexander von Meilenwald have been in many projects and started The Ruins of Beverast in 2003 and released his first full-length, Unlock the Shrine, the next year. The word “Beverast” in the band name is von Meilenwald’s derivation of the norse word “Bifrost” or “Bifröst“, which is the bridge between earth and Asgård.

The Ruins of Beverast has a unique slow-paced, doom-ish style to the music, and usually in cooperates fanfares and choirs to great effect. What realy sets Beverast apart from other doom type black metal, is the harmony of the growls together with the excellent melodies and atmosphere the music creates! It is an excellent mood piece and the tracks I Raised this Stone as a Ghastly Memorial and Summer Decapitation Ritual from the album Unlock the Shrine are fantastic.

Ave Satana and all that stuff, get this album!
